Vertically Integrated Poultry Co-op
Primary Processing
At the processing plant, we take great care of our birds and go beyond the animal welfare standards. Our processing plant has a fully automated area to receive the chicken coops from the transport trucks and move them into the Controlled Atmospheric Stunner. The stunner has several sensors and cameras to determine effective stunning with the least amount of pain and suffering to the broiler. Further description of the broilers can be found here.
The stunned broilers are manually hung on overhead shackled and follow the standard processing steps of neck cutting, 3-stage scalding, picking, pinning, spray cabinet, hock cutter, rehang, evisceration, inside outside bird wash, 3-stage chilling with option of air chilling. The whole carcasses are then cut into front halves and saddles which are then sent for deboning.
We use deboning robots for full-breast and thigh deboning. The details can be found here. The meat is then conveyed to our further processing plant through conveyor belts.
